☔ Configurer Volant Race Wheel Pro 2 Ps4

Thiswill load up the sim for the first time. Click Auto Configure and iRacing will give you the best optimal graphics settings possible for your system. The last step we have to do here is to calibrate your wheel and pedal set. Simply click “Configure Controls” and carefully follow the directions that come up. Once that’s done, you can ATTENTION! If you happen to experience problems with your logitech wheel since the past week, that might have to do with an Logitech driver update that has taken place on current WIN 10 systems maybe others as well. Your wheel might be reckognized as a different one driving force for example which can result in calibration issues, potentiometer issues, button mapping issues, gearing issues, steering lock issues all of which I experienced. no clutch, 180° turning, no gears except 3rd, incorrect button mapping. A simple fix it seems is to re-download and re-install the older driver that is mentioned below for your G25s/G27s. fixed it for me Top Tip from Haldi thx! from the logitech forum. Havent tried it but seems legit includes a driver cleaner Thanks to Dreamknight for the link Here are more tips if a simple driver reinstall doesnt work for you -> I hope the issue will get resolved by Logitech. G25 G27 4 Step Program- Logitech Profiler - - In Game Settings - - Linearity Settings - - Tweaker Files -People who helped with this guide or actually came up with the stuff in here t0daY, Lars Rosenquist, Drukhi, Mahjik, Jack Spade, poirqc, and a bunch of other guys I probably forgot. Big Thank You guys! without your help my set up would just be as shitty as it could be Welcome to this guide! This should help uninformed new users to get the most out of their G25/G27 Logitech Wheel. if any WMD members noticed that I missed something please tell me Having set up your wheel correctly no matter what wheel determines whether you are going to experience what you should or not. And what you should experience is the full potential of a simulation title. Any wheel used in any game can give you a shi**y experience even though only one tiny slider is set at instead of So dont give up if something doesnt feel as you expected it to on the first run. Inform yourself and ask us. We're here to help. Rotation Limiter The deflection limits can be adjusted via hardware inputs hold 1+2 and press one of the buttons at the top [1+2] + O = ~670° [1+2] + S = ~450° [1+2] + X = 900° Resets to default [1+2] + T = ~240° First Logitech Profiler Get the latest Drivers G25 G27 Using the Profiler You can also not be using the profiler as there is some minimal change I cant really put my finger on sadly some people dont use it but I now some people also then will get a wheel bug where the wheel will turn full lock to one side if your car is either in the pits or standing still which can be quite annoying. Ive been told that is due to not using profiler, so its up to you to test. Remember that you will have to uninstall the logitech profiler for it to work as it will always start when you plug in your wheel or start the computer if it is already plugged in or start the game. You will have to try what fits you best. Open the Logitech Profiler Software and make a new profile for Project Cars. Then go to Specific Game Settings. Adjust like so - Use special FFB settings enabled of course - Overall effects strength 100-107% - Spring effect strength 0% - Damper effect strength 0% - Enable Centering Spring disabled - Centering spring strength 0% - use special steering wheel settings enabled - report combined pedals disabled - degrees of rotation 900 - use special game settings enabled - allow game to adjust settings enabledSecond In Game Settings Go to the controls menu and chose "Logitech G25 seperate pedals" Click "Calibrate Wheel" 1st You have to turn the wheel until it stops and reaches its maximum lock. 2nd turn the wheel 90° clock or anticlockwise and hold it when clicking finish. "steering lock" should be at 900° if its at 899° you will die. dont ask what will happen at 901° Click "Calibrate Pedals" Game says it all "Depress all pedals as far as possible" Do it now! The values should all be at 100 Click "finish". If they are not at 100 normally when you first start your PC you should have pressed/depressed all pedals before you start the game. You might need a retry at this. If it still doesnt work restart the game and play a bit with the pedals, it will work. Don't play with them while in the settings menu, pedal input navigates through the settings and might do damage. Go to "Configuration" Now, you can leave the pedal deadzones throttle/brake/clutch at 6 or put them to 0 if you like. That depends on wether your hardware works fine or not. I for instance need a bit of throttle deadzone as my throttle pedal is a bit jittery when I dont press it and it shows a bit of input. Set Force Feedback to 100. Go back. Don't touch anything else. good. thanks. your welcome. Click "Calibrate Force Feedback" At first I recommend setting tire force to 100. You can adjust it to your liking or you adjust the per car FFB settings like master scale or Fx, Fz etc. see below. Try heavy curbs/kerbs at Brands Hatch to test the wheel feel. Also set the HUD to telemtry mode so it shows you the FFB input in the top left corner Third Linearity poirqc and DRR You will need to adjust the Deadzone Removal Range to compensate for washed out effects in FFB. "As soon as you use Deadzone Removal Range, you must use Deadzone Removal Falloff. Those 2 settings are tied together. If you don't have enough DRF, you'll get a squared wave osciallation when going in a straight line. An easy way to tune DRR/DRF is to set DRR 1/10th of DRR." - poirqcThe G25 has a standard FFBbaseOffset-value of around - 15%. This may vary a bit! The G27 however has a FFBbaseOffset-value of whopping 18% or even more with the same settings applied. The ideal value would be 0% for any wheel. If you want to lower your FFB strength and set "Tire Force" overall FFB should stay at 100! to maybe 80 or 60 in the game, you will need to adjust a higher Deadzone Removal Range value ! Again, when lowering FFB strenght more and more effects will get lost if you didnt adjust Deadzone Removal Range as well and it just doesnt feel as good as it could be. You can try to lower FFB by using Tire Force instead of FFB Strength in game. To get your very own FFBbaseOffset-value download "wheel checker Just open it, no need to install. Click on "Spring Force" at the top and go to Step Log 2. Make sure you dont touch your wheel for the next few seconds. It will get inputs every 300ms and move more everytime it gets an input until it is finished and the program puts out an .csv log file. you can find it here C\Users\you\Documents\log2 2015 file To be able to actually do something with those log files I advise you to follow the instructions given in this sheet. You will need to have a google account to open it I think. click * FFB Calculator * click Follow the instructions given in the top left corner Linearity Guide - You may use it for any wheel Baseline FFB values - Linear FFB Google sheet. Universal If you dont want to make a google account for this you can just simply open your .csv log files and put the first force and last column deltaXdeg of values in any tabulation program to actually get a graph you can work with. Would look like this. A/B/C just show the first inputs reckognized by the wheel checker. A 600 and B1000 are very small inputs and can be ignored and as you can see it starts going up starting with C, so that is basically where your deadzone ends. Look at the graph. I for example did it with Numbers mac and it looks like this Since DeadzoneRemovalRange DRR helps to get your FFB more linear you can notice that from my graph I get the best linearity starting from ~1200. If you look at the diagonal input line you can see that the output is below that line from 0-2000. Every value at zero at the beginning of the graph means that you have FFB DeadZone. roughly from 0-1000 where it starts to build up So its linear for me starting at 1200. Therefore my DRR value to put ingame is If it started at 800 DRR in game should be for example. Congratulations! You now have a very good starting point for adjusting those other 14 sliders! You may contact me if you seem to have found the pinnacle of G25 performance. maybe I already didFourth FFB Tweaker Files Jack Spade's These are the settings that change the FFB per car and they are good for any wheel you are using. There are different Folders you can choose from, you will have to try what suits you best. It is advisable to make a copy of the original Folder first. The improvement with the tweaker files is huge so I recommend using it ! I would never drive without them ever again Someone already explained them in here as well FFB overall and Tire Force again General FFB strength Output strength of the FFB to the wheel after it has been calculated by the FFB engine. This is basically the final 'volume' adjustment of the FFB. This means that if the FFB is clipping, turning the FFB strength down won't help anymore. Tyre Force This is the strength of the tyre contribution to the FFB, which is also the main contributor to the FFB. If the FFB is too high or too low for all cars, you can adjust this value to get it equally stronger/weaker for all cars. The car-specific settings These you want to adjust when the FFB of one car is good while for the next car it's too weak or strong or has a wrong subjective balance of the individual force contributors. Spindle Master Scale this scales the forces below it equally up and down, it's the FFB 'volume knob' specifically for that car. Turn it down if the FFB is clipping, and up if it's too weak. Fx this is the FFB component representing the longitudinal force on the tyre contact patch. This should determine FFB when accelerating or braking, but I haven't really experimented with this one yet. Fy this is the FFB component representing the lateral force on the tyre contact patch. Very important for feeling mass transfer/inertia of the car when cornering. Fz this is the FFB component representing the vertical force on the tyre contact patch. This plays an important part in the 'road feel' of the FFB, when going over bumps in the road. Mz this is the FFB component representing the twisting force of the wheels, rotation along the vertical axis of the wheel. It is the self-aligning force of the wheels into the driving direction and is most important for getting the 'classic' feel of the FFB getting lighter when the front tyres lose grip. So when you want a particular force to stand out in the FFB, raise its relative contribution to the total FFB, and after that adjust the Spindle Master Scale value if necessary to get the FFB stay within the full range not clipping or getting too weak. ETS2 Steering configuration Guide. This is a very important choice as it decides about the gearbox type you may use. The more complex controller the better. But you may play using keyboard arrows. Even with another controller the number of options makes it impossible to resign from keyboard.

Automatic mode changes gears automatically, except for reverse and neutral. Automatic mode affects your realism score. Realism score is unimplemented. autoGear Clutch Automatic clutch mode operates the clutch automatically when the car is stopped or starts from a standstill. By doing so, it protects the engine from stalling. Note The car will still stall with autoclutch in some situations. It changes to automatic mode if engine start is also set to automatic. Manual clutch settings will let you operate the clutch manually during start or when the car is stopped with a gear engaged. Failing to operate the clutch correctly will result in the car stalling. autoClutch Engine Start Automatic engine start means the engine will start automatically even when you spin or stop with a gear engaged. If the engine stalls, it will start again automatically. When it is selected, the clutch will also be set to automatic mode. Manual engine start requires you to set up inputs to control the ignition and engine starter. If the engine stalls while driving, you will need to restart it by pressing the key or button configured in the controller settings. autoEngineSwitch Wipers Toggles automatic or manual wipers. The automatic wiper function will automatically enable the wiper and set the appropriate wiper speed according to the weather conditions. It also senses water spray kicked up by opponent cars in front of the player. autoWiper Lights Toggles automatic or manual lights. Using automatic lights will automatically turn on the appropriate light stage according to the time of day and weather conditions. autoLights Pit Limiter Toggles automatic or manual pit limiter. The automatic pit limiter will engage the pit limiter when crossing the pitlane entry line. However, the automatic pit limiter does not function as automatic brake, the car still needs to be slowed down to the pit speed limit before entering the pitlane. Also, you need to be in first gear. When you shift up, it will automatically turn off the limiter. autoPitLimiter Stability Control Stability control allows more stable cornering and makes it harder to spin. The higher percentage is set, the more stable the car will be, and thus, easer to drive. The use of stability control is prohibited in blancpain regulations, so this setting is to be considered an additional gameplay assist and not a realistic option. Enabling any percentage of stability control affects your realism score. Realism score is unimplemented. stabilityControlLevelMin stabilityControlLevelMax Ideal Line Enabling the Ideal line draws a graphical line on the circuit that is visible during driving. Getting to grips with F1 22 early on is, of course, going to help you out massively, and with a game that reflects a sport as complex as Formula One, learning all of the controls is essential. For long-time F1 game players, you’ll find that the controls haven’t changed much, if at all, over the last few games. Still, for those new to the game, here are all of the F1 22 controls for each platform and for anyone using a racing wheel to help you literally get up to speed. How to remap the F1 22 controls To remap you F1 22 controls, before heading onto the track, go to the Options menu from the F1 22 main menu, select Settings, and then go to the Controls, Vibration and Force Feedback’ page. After that, select the controller or wheel that you’re using and then Edit Mappings.’ Here, you can remap the buttons of your F1 22 controls. To do this, hover over which button you want to change, press the appropriate select button Enter, X, or A, and then press your new mapping before saving the custom controls. How to navigate the menu on PC and with a racing wheel For PC players, there is sadly isn’t any mouse support again for the game. So, to cycle through the menus, you will need to use the Arrow Keys to select a page, Enter to proceed, Esc to go back, and F5 or F6 to cycle between sections. If using a racing wheel to navigate the F1 22 menu, use the trigger buttons to move across the pages, pressing either X/A to select and proceed or Square/X to go back to where you were. The game will always show what buttons you need to press at the top of the main menu. How do you save the game Each F1 22 session – be it practice, qualifying – it will save automatically upon completion or just before the start of the next session. So, if you finish qualifying, the game will save before you exit to the main menu. Likewise, if you finish qualifying but proceed to the race and then decide to exit, the game will save prior to loading the race, taking you straight to the intro for the race should you quit before finishing. Mid-session saves are also a feature whereby you can save the game halfway through a race, qualifying, or practice session. To do this, pause the game and cycle down to Mid-Session Save’ to save the game, after which you can carry on or exit. How do you make a pit stop In F1 22, pit stops come with two options. You can change between “immersive” and “broadcast” within the gameplay settings section from the main options page. Immersive will see you control the pitstop yourself, while broadcast presents it as if it is on TV and you just sit back and watch. If you’re set to perform a pit stop manually, you’ll need to Drive your car down the pit lane;Brake to meet the speed limit for the pit lane as late as possible to activate the Pit Limiter;Activate the Pit Limiter F/Triangle/Y;The game will carry your car to the pit box;Hold the Clutch button Space/X/A to rev the engine while the tyres get changed; When the light turns green, release the Clutch button; As you exit the pit lane, press the Pit Limiter button F/Triangle/Y and Accelerate A/R2/RT away. With the immersive option, you enter the pits as normal, break for the pit entry, and hit the pit limiter. As you get close to your pit box, you will be prompted to press a button. Pressing this as close to the countdown running out as possible will give you the quickest possible pit stop. If you press too slow, you will have a bad stop. Once you are in the box, hold in your clutch, rev the engine, and then let go once the stop is done as you would in the last few F1 games For those who have pit stops set to automatic, simply drive into the pit lane entry and then the game will take you into the pits, sort out your pit stop, and get you back onto the track automatically. You won’t need to take over until your car is back on the race track. How to change your fuel mix Your fuel mix is locked in standard during a race, but you can change it under safety car or in a pitstop. Simply press the MFD button, and where it says fuel mix, press the mapped button to flick it into lean mixture. Lean and standard are the only mixtures available. How to use ERS ERS is controlled automatically in F1 22 except for when you want to overtake someone for more power. Simply press the M/Circle/B button to overtake, and you will have extra power down the section of track you are on. How to serve a drive through penalty in F1 22 Serving a drive through penalty is easy. When issued with it, you will have three laps in which to serve it. Simply enter the pitlane when you wish to serve it, and the game will handle the rest. How to use DRS To use DRS, simply press the calibrated button F/Triangle/Y of your choosing when you are within a second of the car in front after three laps of the race in the DRS zone. You can also simply press the button for each lap you are on when in the zone during practice and qualifying. Now that you know the F1 22 controls on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and when using a racing wheel, all that you need is the best track setup. Looking for F1 22 setups? COMPOSANTS > Processeur > Carte mère > Mémoire PC > Boitier PC > Alimentation PC > A top quality direct drive sim racing wheel, such as the VRS DirectForce Pro, is very responsive, powerful, and fun to drive. Out of the box, the default settings will give you great feeling force feedback FFB, but for the best experience it is important to use the wheel tool to configure your VRS DirectForce Pro to your specific game, car, and preferences. We’ll cover the main things to adjust using iRacing as the example platform, but these points will be relevant in every sim racing game. Before getting into the in-game settings, make sure you have the VRS Wheel Tool installed, available here. General In-Game Settings Ideally, for a given race car, everyone with a VRS DirectForce Pro should run the same in-game settings and do their preference adjustments in the Wheel Tool. In-sim force feedback strength is the main thing to focus on and tune within the iRacing settings, and we’ll explain this later. For iRacing settings, if you see a “Strength” label instead of a “Max force” label under Options -> Force Feedback, click on the label and it will change to “Max Force” measured in Nm. We will ideally change that setting for each car explained in the next section. “Wheel Force” should be set to 20Nm, though not consequential as that’s only used by iRacing’s FFB auto-adjustment feature, which you won’t need if you use our recommended “Max Force” settings. You can play with damping if you’d like, but we recommend using the Wheel Tool damping, so iRacing damping should generally be set to 0%. Min Force absolutely should be set to 0% though. Check “Enable Force Feedback”, “Use linear mode”, and “Reduce force when parked”. Force Feedback Strength First, we need to explain FFB clipping. In iRacing, hit F by default to bring up telemetry of your force feedback. Here we can see the F bar, showing the current FFB output to the VRS DirectForce Pro Wheel Base controller. The “clipping point” is when the F bar turns red and is maxed out, which means the force feedback can’t go any higher. Clipping is undesirable under normal driving conditions, so you need a high enough clipping point. However, setting the clip point too high results in a weaker overall FFB strength. There are two main ways to adjust raw force feedback strength. The first is with the VRS wheel tool, and the second is through the in-game settings. Going over the wheel tool first, the Max Force slider will determine the maximum torque the motor will output. This is useful to adjust because most FFB forces are well below the maximum output of the game and motor. We are suggesting two different ways to adjust your force feedback strength per car Option 1 “Set and forget” the Wheel Tool Max Force, and adjust the in-game Max Force for each car. We recommend you start with the default of 50% Max Force in the Wheel Tool until you get used to the wheel. Most of our testers and even pro sim racers use 40% to 60% max force. From there, you can adjust in-game force to your liking, but make sure the F bar doesn’t reach the clipping point doesn’t get red under grippy driving conditions. This method has the advantage of not having to save and reload profiles for each car in the VRS Wheel Tool, and it will work just fine, however there are two potential drawbacks, especially at Wheel Tool Max Forces above 50% Crashes and heavy curb hits could be very strong, and the overall FFB resolution could be slightly reduced over the operating range. If you want to find the optimal “clipping point” and maximize the effective resolution of the FFB signal from the sim, consider the second option. Option 2 Find the optimal in-sim max force for each car, then adjust the Wheel Tool max force for each car to your preference. Hit F to bring up the F bar in iRacing. We want to adjust the in-game Max Force so that the F bar only clips yellow or red over the heaviest curb hits and during wall impacts, but stays green hanging around 40-70% force during normal cornering. To more precisely calibrate the FFB Max Force for a car, you should be doing laps in the most grippy conditions possible cool track temperatures, high track rubber, and non-worn tires. You should also pick a track that loads up the tires well with high speed essess, heavy braking zones and some jarring curbs. Combined with the grippy weather and track conditions, you’ll get an extreme case of FFB workload. If you have a Competitive VRS subscription, analyzing a lap of telemetry in the “advanced mode” on the FFB tab will tell you exactly the in-game setting you should select in Nm. The guidance is to configure the sim to only clip 2% of the samples from the high end of the force in the extreme grip lap test. Here are a few example iRacing Max Force settings we’ve tested for as of June 2020. Remember you can click “Max Force” in the iRacing options to change to a Nm readout. Please note that car setup, steering ratio, track grip, and iRacing physics updates can change the best setting for each car, so only use these as a starting point/reference Mazda MX5 14 Nm Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 991 20 Nm McLaren MP4-12C GT3 24 Nm Ferrari 488 GT3 30 Nm BMW Z4 GT3 21 Nm Mercedes AMG GT3 31 Nm Ferrari 488 GTE 33 Nm Porsche 911 RSR 26 Nm BMW M8 GTE 47 Nm Formula Renault 33 Nm Formula Renault 19 Nm Dallara F3 32 Nm NASCAR Cup 26 Nm NASCAR Xfinity 27 Nm NASCAR Truck 21 Nm If you drive multiple cars, you should check “use custom controls for this car” to adjust each car individually. From there, it’s as simple as finding the overall wheel strength you like, and tune to that with the Max Force slider in the Wheel Tool. Generally, most of our testers liked 40% to 60% max force if they followed the above process for setting proper in-game FFB. The max force you end up choosing is completely up to you! Try to start weaker and slowly build up as you feel more comfortable with the direct drive forces. Keep in mind that the motor is very strong, so take it slow to avoid injuring yourself! Eventually you’ll find a point that “feels right” by being strong enough that you feel every detail you need, without overpowering your grip or overly tiring your arms after a long stint. There are benefits of running a lot of force. As an example, the self-aligning torque of the wheels helps you catch oversteer without you doing much. The more force you run, the more this effect is pronounced. However, this does not mean you should run as much as possible at all times. You should be comfortable with the setting – your arms should not hurt while driving and you shouldn’t run forces that could impose risks on your health. If the maximum you can take ends up being only 10Nm 50% instead of 20Nm 100% that is fine, it won’t mean you’re not taking advantage of your DD wheel. Once you have your settings for each car and are happy with the overall force, set it and forget it! Generally you shouldn’t adjust for different tracks or for different weather conditions for a given car, because you want to be able to feel the differences in grip level of the track surface. Our World Championship VRS Coaches use this mindset, and say it only takes one trip through Turn 1 of any track to know exactly how much grip the track and tire has, allowing them to push all-out at the start of every stint. Wheel Tool Settings and Filters There are a few settings with sliders in the Wheel Tool which you can adjust to achieve the “feel” in the wheel that you want. The Wheel Tool comes preloaded with a default configuration that should feel great, but you may want to play with the settings to find what you like best. Any time you make a change, make sure to hit “Save Settings” to apply and persist the changes. Calibrate the center of the wheel by turning your steering wheel until it’s perfectly centered and click “Center”. Degrees of rotation are up to your preference, but most sim racers use the standard 900 degrees, which is a full turn and a quarter to the left and right. The wheel has “end stops” that will resist wheel movement past the maximum degrees of rotation. Smoothing takes the “raw” FFB signal that the sim sends to the controller, and filters it to make it smoother. Otherwise, the FFB can feel “notchy”, especially with iRacing’s 60hz refresh rate. To feel the raw signal, try 0 smoothing most people don’t like this. The motor can achieve the command from the sim within 1-2ms but a new command is issued once every 16ms at 60Hz update rate. Without additional filtering/smoothing, you’d feel the steps the motor makes every 16ms. More smoothing means less “notchiness”, but with the downside of a delay when the full force feedback command from the sim is achieved. Some people like the more notchy response because the wheel feels more “alive”, while others prefer the smoother feel, which is closer to what real cars feel like. Generally try to run the lowest Smoothing value you can without feeling too much notchiness. Most Pro sim racers prefer 1 or 2 smoothing on iRacing. Damper, Friction, Inertia, Spring have an associated drop-down menu, which allows you to select if you want the device to configure the listed effects, the game, or a combination of both. Most of the time you’d probably want to stick to Device Effect Only. Damping is a force that acts against the current rotation of the wheel, and is stronger for quicker rotation. Damping is used mostly to reduce oscillations from the game’s FFB. The downside to high damping that the will becomes less responsive to driver inputs and to sim commands. Lower damping is generally recommended, but a small amount is good for reducing oscillations. Our pro drivers prefer 10% to 20% damping. Friction and inertia will be implemented at a later date. Spring is a force acting to center the wheel. It’s a linear spring, so you’ll experience more centering force the further the wheel is turned. Generally we don’t recommend using this setting in iRacing leave it at 0, but it may is useful in other games or for racers who prefer weak FFB. Non-linearity is a FFB technique used with lower-end wheels. Weak FFB forces from the game are amplified, and strong forces are a bit “compressed” to allow you to feel some more FFB detail on the weak-end without clipping on the strong-end. We’ve included non-linearity as an option on our system to accommodate users who would prefer soft FFB less than 50% Max Force without losing out on the small FFB details. It’s also an option to try for racing games which seem to be lacking detail on the low end. Generally for most sim racing titles, set non-linearity to 0 completely linear. Higher values will amplify low-end forces more. Saving/Loading Settings and Profiles The Wheel Tool allows you to easily save and load your settings to the firmware, as well as save profiles for different cars or games to reload later. To save your current settings, hit “Save Settings”. If you made changes to the sliders without saving but want to return to the last loaded settings configuration, hit “Reload Settings”. Factory Default will return the settings to what they were when you bought the wheel base. You can hit “Add Profile” to create a new profile with the currently selected settings. Use the dropdown menu to select another profile. Hit “Save Settings” to apply the settings to the wheel. Loading Firmware If you need to load new firmware or reload an old one, hit “Enter Bootloader”, then open the firmware file. The device will restart back into the main firmware after a firmware update. Other Settings The Encoder and Debug tabs are for developer use only and can be ignored. Unfortunately there will be no steering wheel support for the all-new NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered. What is further disappointing, is the fact that this decision is final and they won’t be revisiting this topic in the future. There might be a bright side to this. Like in the past, even though EA didn’t have steering wheel support for many

Last updated February 26th, 2022 I’ve written about Simucube’s excellent DD wheelbase almost everywhere except on this website. That’s going to change today as I’ve recently managed to get round to mounting my Simucube on my very nice Sim Dynamics chassis. It’s good to be able to switch between the Fanatec DD2 and the Simucube 2 Pro as this gives me a really good sense of the differences and similarities. But I’m not sure that people want to read *yet another* Simucube 2 Pro review, so, I want to start with something a lot of newer sim racers might not realise Simucube is a really accessible Direct Drive product, even for beginners If you’re thinking of upgrading from a DD1 or DD2, or you’re on a Logitech G29 or Thrustmaster wheel, then I’d like this post to be for you. Particularly if you think that Simucube is too much of a step from a lower-priced belt or gear drive wheel. Or, that Simucube is not for beginners. That is wrong. If I knew now what I didn’t know back then, and I was just starting out building my very first, beginner simulator – I would try to skip the “low-end” gear altogether and find a tiny bit more cash to build this Simucube 2 SportHeusinkveld Sprint PedalsSim Lab GT1 Evo chassis You could buy that list for around €1500 / $1800 if you really looked for a deal. On that note, I went on to spec a high-end simulator on a budget in this guide. Don’t be put off, either, by the price of high-end steering wheels for Simucube, there are ways to attach far less expensive items. For example, with the right QR hub and a USB conversion, you could attach the relatively inexpensive Fanatec Mclaren GT3 v2 wheel to a Simucube 2 Sport. So with all that said, what does Simucube DD wheel ownership look like, what’s involved with the installation, setup and naturally, the drive? How to Install Simucube 2 Pro The SC2 Pro, Sport, Ultimate and Mige 130 Motors all have a universal, front fitment. That means you need a front mounting bracket, either designed to fit directly to your aluminium profile chassis or onto the flat mounting plate if your rig was intended to be compatible with Fanatec equipment. It’s easy to know what to buy, so it’s just a matter of where you buy from. On that note when you’re selecting a mount adaptor for your Simucube wheelbase, you should take torque levels into account. Quality is so important. That’s why a front mounting bracket like this one from Sim-Lab is a wise choice. It’s a solid lump of metal, and definitely won’t flex! If you’re a Sim Lab GT1 owner, or otherwise have a flat mounting plate for a wheelbase on your rig, then you need a particular design of bracket. Some brackets are really not worth the money – they’re flimsy, aluminium items that have been cheaply made. So, be warned. Personally, I would choose a Simcore bracket, like this. Simcore’s UM1 bracket for SC2 Pro/Ultimate/Sport and MiGE 130 motors Installation is very simple with the right components. The Simucubes all use M8 bolts x4 mounted on the front like this I’m testing a prototype mount for Simucube from SimDynamics – with this mounting bracket installed I can swap between my Fanatec DD2 or Simucube relatively simply. When you’re installing the only advice I can give you is to tighten those bolts up as tight as you can! Here it is, fitted in my rig. As you can see, this prototype mount uses spacers to account for the additional width that the Fanatec needed. This collection of M8 bolts and 10mm thick aluminium means my Simucube is rock solid Once you’ve got it mounted, it pays to check that you’ll be happy with the positioning so that the angle of the steering wheel makes sense. Sit in your cockpit with a wheel attached we’ll come onto mounting the wheel with the SQR hub ins a moment. You should be able to change the angle so that you’re comfortable with the wheel in your hands. Cable tidiness I’m not sure how the cable tidy professionals do it. No matter how hard I try, I’m never very happy with the outcome. A few tricks and parts have helped my installations become a bit more bearable over time though. My cable tidiness.. I’m sure you’ve seen worse! What’s hindering me with this installation is that I own the earlier, 2xPSU Simucube 2 Pro. The newer models ship with a single power supply. Alas, this Simucube PSU mounting bracket works very neatly and a Y-Splitter mains cable like this one from CPC will reduce your mains cabling burden a fair bit too. You’ll notice I’ve mounted the E-Stop to the aluminium profile. That’s because the case has two small holes on the back. If you take the lid off, you’ll find them. Using a screwdriver, you can carefully open them up enough to get a bolt through. If you turn the box on the side those two holes luckily mate with the profile slots. Easy! SQR Hub installation The Simucube SQR hub comes fitted to the Simucube range. And for good reason – it’s a simple, solid little unit. Unlike the Fanatec QR mount, there is no play or flex whatsoever. If I only ever had one QR hub for the rest of my sim racing career I’d be more than happy to stick with the SQR. SQR Hub in bits There are 3 parts to an SQR hub, and I can tell you from experience it pays to loosely attach it together first, just to make sure you know how everything is going to align when it’s tightened up. You mount the centerpiece to the wheel adapter plate first, tighten the bolts with spring washers they can come loose if you don’t do a good job of this!. Then, attach the hub adapter at the end. It pays to check how this will all line up on the steering wheel so that the QR pin can’t foul a paddle shifter. SQR hub completed and ready to attach The diameter of the SQR hub body means that it’s too easy to scratch the anodized aluminium with a hex key. If you’ve got a ball joint style hex key, this is a great use case Here’s the wheel mounted to the Simucube with everything ready for setup Ready to go – simucube and wheel attached Simucube Settings Simucube runs on TrueDrive software. TrueDrive is really easy to install – download the latest version from Granite Devices, extract the zip file to a folder and run the exe file. I have a shortcut set up on my Streamdeck too. When you first run TrueDrive making sure your Simucube is powered, it’ll run through the firmware update process. Again, it’s completely pain-free Simple firmware update procedure in a handful of steps Once your firmware is updated, you can more or less start driving. For a primer on Simucube’s settings, I recommend you read my article on G-Performance Here are my settings, which I think work really well with the GT3 class cars What is the Simucube like to drive? Every time I go back to the Simucube I’m delighted. There’s something about the detail – not just the smoothness and the rest of the things most reviewers write. It’s the little details, like when you have a front lock with a steering angle, the wheel will pull slightly in the direction that your wheel is turned as if the tyre walls are folding. The DD2 doesn’t deliver anything like this level of information. It’s not because of the hardware, as such – more the driver software and firmware. Some real thought has been put into the FFB interpretation, and to me, it just works. The information you get as you drive around the circuit just seems so convincing, detailed and relevant. Fanatec’s FFB is good too, but it’s noisy, grainy and more binary in some way. As I’ve already mentioned I much prefer the SQR hub – it genuinely does not flex. It’s beautifully machined and looks the part. Finally, there’s a nice feature when peak torque is causing a clipping event; an audible beep – which is super useful when you’re setting up the correct torque settings in your sim software FFB. If I were to choose between the Fanatec DD2 and the Simucube, I have to say, it’s the Simucube for me. Related articles

DiRT Rally the rally car simulator from Codemasters, is best played with a force feedback wheel. The game transmits a lot of information about what the car is doing through the force feedback of the wheel. Given the difficulty of controlling a rally car, you want to get as much information from the wheel as possible without fighting the force feedback. Unfortunately, the default force feedback settings in DiRT Rally don't work very well for the Thrustmaster TMX and T150 they are essentially the same wheel. The force feedback is set too strong and it just feels like you are fighting to turn the wheel on every single corner, when it should be relatively easy. These are great entry-level wheels for their price, but they don't have the responsiveness of more expensive, higher end wheels, leading to these kind of problems. With that in mind, it is important to tune the force feedback settings in the game to your particular wheel. After doing a lot of research and my own testing, I found the best settings for the Thrustmaster TMX and T150. These really made a big impact on my enjoyment of the game. Jump To Thrustmaster Settings DiRT Rally Settings Thrustmaster Control Panel Settings DiRT Rally has a Soft Lock feature, so it will automatically set the proper steering angle for each car in the game. Set the maximum steering angle in the Thrustmaster Control Panel and calibrate the wheel in-game. Setting Value Rotation 900° TMX 1080° T150 Overall Strength of all forces 100% Constant 100% Periodic 100% Spring 100% Damper 100% BOOST Off Auto-Center by the game Spring is not used by DiRT Rally so the value doesn't actually matter. Some games require Spring to be on for their force feedback to work, so I keep it at 100% as a general rule. Damper is used in DiRT Rally for the Wheel Friction and Tire Friction effects. I don't use either of these effects, they only make the wheel a little heavier and are unnecessary. BOOST should always be turned off. For an in-depth look as to why, see my BOOST Force Feedback Analysis. DiRT Rally Settings It is very important to calibrate your wheel by highlighting the wheel and choosing Device Options. Without calibration, the steering angle won't be set correctly and the wheel will feel very strange. Setting Value Steering Linearity -4 - 0 Steering Deadzone 0 Steering Saturation 100 Soft Lock On Setting Steering Linearity to a negative value makes the steering more sensitive when the wheel is centered. This can be useful for older cars that have a larger degree of rotation, if it feels like you are unable to turn the wheel fast enough around corners. For modern style cars, Steering Linearity should be set to 0, or the wheel will be over sensitive when centered and harder to control. Setting Value Vibration & Feedback On Self Aligning Torque 45 Wheel Friction 0 Tire Friction 0 Suspension 60 Collision 100 Soft Lock 150 Steering Centre Force Enabled On Steering Centre Force 100 Self Aligning Torque is the overall strength of the force feedback. Wheel Friction and Tire Friction are both Damper forces. In different ways, they both add resistance to the wheel only if you have the Damper force enabled in the Thrustmaster Control Panel. Wheel Friction is a mostly constant force that simply makes the wheel heavier. Tire Friction is mostly felt based on the speed of the car. When the car is still, you will feel the heaviness of the car when you try to turn the wheel. I don't like Damper forces on these lower end wheels, so I turn these off. Suspension controls the vibrations you feel in the wheel from the road surface. Collision controls the vibration when you hit a rock or something on the side of the road. Soft Lock is the force you feel when trying to turn the wheel past the real-world steering angle. Steering Centre Force is only ever used when you start a race or reset the car to re-center the wheel. It has no effect when you are driving. Conclusion Before making these changes, I found the game fun, but often annoyingly hard to control. After applying these settings, I was no longer fighting with the force feedback and I finally had complete control over the car. This makes the game so much more enjoyable to play because you can actually control the car in difficult situations. I highly recommend you try these settings. If you want to feel like you've been plucked straight out of a racing car, you'll want to check out some of the latest peripherals on the market. The best PS4 racing wheels can turn your everyday collection into one packed with true immersion and excellent feedback experience. Some of the top devices pack more features than ever these days, making even the simplest of corners feel realistic. Upgrade your racing controls to a premium PS4 steering wheel, and you’ll be leaning into every corner, feeling the force of the physics and stamping out pedal combinations in no time. Oh, and you'll also more often than not bag yourself one of the best PC controllers, too, given their wheels themselves are precision instruments, designed to keep you teetering on the edge of control but still making it feel like you have what it takes to steal that tenth of a second, and go faster than you ever have before. Tech called force feedback simulates - quite brilliantly, actually - the feeling of rubber fighting the laws of physics, and pedals take braking away from your fingertips and put it somewhere with a bit more muscle memory behind then, are the best PS4 steering wheels on the market. The G923 is a direct successor to both the Xbox-focused G920, and the PS version, the G29. Now we've just got this one device sold in two variants, and boy oh boy is it a best value setup on the marketLogitech G923 reviewSteering wheels are typically aimed at either entry-level players looking to dip their toes in the water of sim racing, or hardcore racers who have been doing this for some time now and the G923 caters for both brilliantly. The G923 also offers perhaps the most immersion you'll get from any wheel on the market thanks to the new TrueForce technology, while still keeping the price point below the upmarket price of £350/$400 is still steep if you're new to the scene, but it's less than its direct competitors and is one of the best when it comes to performance. It's well-built with premium stitching around the leather, looks sleek with your set-up, and is the closest you can get to experience what it's like to actually be behind the wheel of a supercar/F1 car/rally car without leaving the comfort of your desk - or forking out some serious money for a full sim-rig set-up. If you've got the cash, the G923 is a beautiful bit of kit, and a must-have if you don't already own a similar more Logitech G923 steering wheel & pedals review2. HORI Racing Wheel ApexThe best budget PS4 steering wheelSpecificationsRotation 270° maxPedals 2Buttons 16Adjustable pedals YesReasons to buy+Wheels and pedals for fun racing+Wallet-friendly priceReasons to avoid-No force feedback-Restrictive 270° rotation angleHORI has made a name for itself in its fighting game controllers, but it’s branched out into steering wheels too, most notably with this budget-level PS4 and PS3 setup. It’s officially-licensed, too, though you might have to adjust some of the control options both on the wheel and in the games to get the most out of compatibility - this wheel isn’t listed in every game’s steering wheel presets. Still, it’s perfectly serviceable for most are clear entry-level features here, with suction pads for tabletop use though there’s also a clamp too if you have a racing seat and no Force Feedback to enjoy, meaning this wheel is very much entry-level. That said, it’s a good size, and there’s an adjustable rotation angle - you can either set it to 180 degrees of movement for quick direction changes in arcade titles, or you can boost that to 270 degrees of rotation for more serious sims. It’s still far from the realistic rotation angles of other wheels on this list, but the choice is wheel itself is plasticky, but smooth and glossy, with a nice, chunky design. The buttons are fully re-mappable, which means you can set your pit radio or brake bias buttons where you want them for maximum control during the race. It’s also pleasant to see two buttons embedded in the wheel rim itself, allowing you to open DRS or look behind you in any F1 game without moving your thumb from the wheel. Very nice. There’s no clutch pedal and what you get is rather plasticky. However, there is adjustable sensitivity on the pedals and a retractable, tactile footrest to help you keep the unit under your toes. Considering the price, you’re getting a decent wheel, but if you’re serious about your driving games, you will get far more from any of the other wheels on this list.Image credit Thrustmaster3. Thrustmaster T150The cheapest Thrustmaster PS4 steering wheel with force feedbackSpecificationsRotation 1080°Pedals 2Buttons 13Adjustable pedals YesReasons to buy+Reasonably priced+Solid force feedback resistance+Works on PS4, PS3, and PCReasons to avoid-All-plastic buildHesitant to spend a lot on a PS4 steering wheel but still want to give yourself a racing wheel experience that provides everything you need at a decent standard? Then the Thrustmaster T150 is a fantastic force feedback here might not be as refined as the T300 we've highlighted a bit further down the page, but the money you save more than makes up for it. There's still a pleasing amount of pull on the corners pedals and wheel are all-plastic, which is one of the other compromises over more expensive PS4 steering wheels that often favor metal elements. That being said, everything feels remarkably robust. There are cheaper wheels out there that will work fine on your PS4, but you start to notice the drop in quality pretty soon on those models with a more lightweight feel, no force feedback, and more limited Logitech G29 Driving Force Racing WheelAn older version of the best PS4 steering wheel - great for discountsSpecificationsRotation 900°Pedals 3Buttons 16Adjustable pedals NoReasons to buy+High quality force feedback motor+Comes with three excellent pedals+Compatible with PS4, PS3 and PC+Bargainous priceReasons to avoid-Not quite as luxury as the Fanatec modelLogitech has a long history of great PlayStation wheels, dating back to the days of Gran Turismo 3. The current version offers Force Feedback, three pedals and compatibility with both PS4 and PS3 as well as PC.Strong Force Feedback comes from a compact servo with a built-in clamp, allowing you to get set up and racing on any desk very quickly. The wheel rim isn’t interchangeable, but you can add a manual stick shift to it later if you prefer. Since you can’t take the wheel off, it needs to be a good one, and thankfully it is. Control is super-smooth and the plush-feeling finish combines with good button placement and an integrated clicker wheel to give you the feeling that you have complete control over your vehicle. The stainless steel paddle shifters are well-positioned too - it’s a solid-feeling unit with everything within easy reach. Resistance isn’t a strong point of this pedal set, but considering the Xbox equivalent has issues with too much resistance, that’s probably a better way to be. You do get three pedals, though, so you can drop the clutch on the start line, which is a big advantage if you like your racing on the serious side. The pedal base isn’t particularly large, which gives it a very slight toy’ feeling, but given the price, you’re getting a full pedal set included with a superb wheel, so there’s not much reason to complain. Thrustmaster T300 Ferrari GTE Official Force Feedback wheelThe best PS4 steering wheel for force feedbackSpecificationsRotation 1080°Pedals 2Buttons 12Adjustable pedals YesReasons to buy+Excellent force feedback that feels real+PS3 compatibleReasons to avoid-You might need to upgrade to better pedals-Undercut by Logitech in priceThrustmaster has a wealth of options but the T300 is the gold standard for mid-tier Force Feedback wheels on PS4, but it is significantly more expensive at present than Logitech’s similarly-specced bundle. Still, this unit is highly recommended, as the feeling of driving with this wheel in an all-out sim like Assetto Corsa is simply sublime precise, immersive control that makes you feel like you’re actually in the car as you hurtle around Silverstone. The fundamental quality of the Force Feedback motor is excellent, with strong forces pushing and pulling at you as you turn thanks to the brushless motor inside. This allows you to feel the car’s adhesion with the surface of the road as the steering goes light in your hands when you’re understeering. It’s also compatible with PS3 which is excellent if you fancy dipping back into the likes of Sega Rally or OutRun Online HD. This is an officially-licensed wheel, too, which means the chances of it being compatible with your favourite game is much higher than cheaper models. Buy with is a lovely, solid racing wheel that feels smooth as you turn it. The T300 base is modular, too, which means you can switch out rims if you decide you want to upgrade further down the line. As for this one, it features Ferrari branding, a toggle switch for whichever car setting you decide to assign it to maybe brake bias? That would be cool and a nice red indicator stripe so you can see when the wheel is centered in games like Dirt Rally. However, there’s no dedicated clutch paddle or pedal or handbrake included, so you’ll need to use one of the face buttons if you need those, which isn’t ideal. While this isn’t the best Thrustmaster pedals set we prefer the T3PA pedal set, sold separately, as you only get accelerator and brake pedals out of the box, it’s a perfectly functional set with precise control over your inputs, meaning less wheelspin and more controlled braking. The base plate is large enough to rest your feet on, which makes it less likely to move if it’s unsecured. And if you want better pedals, you don’t need to buy an entirely new bundle. So while this starter pack contains everything you need to get racing in a serious way, if you find yourself wanting more, you can pick and mix down the line. best PS4 wheel for serious racersSpecificationsRotation 1080°Pedals 2Buttons 15Adjustable pedals YesReasons to buy+Incredible force feedback engine+Feels like driving a real car+Customisable to the extremeReasons to avoid-Costs more than your entire PS4Yes, the price is higher than the console you’re playing on, but on the balance of price vs quality, this is undoubtedly the absolute best racing wheel on PS4. While not the top-of-the-range entry in Fanatec’s catalogue, the quality of this wheel and pedals set is far, far superior to the next entry on the list, and arguably feels better to use than the ultra-deluxe ClubSport pack thanks to superb pedals and a formidable force feedback motor, which is why we’ve chosen it over its bigger simply won’t believe how strong the Force Feedback motor is in this wheelbase. In an F1 game, pick a classic Williams and go for a drive around the bumpy streets of Monaco, and you’ll literally be wrestling with the wheel as it judders around, trying to shake itself free of the straight line you’re attempting to drive. It’s simply magnificent, and so solid you’ll really feel like there is a real car connected to the wheel in your hands. Having an integrated rev bar lighting up as you play is also really cool, as long as the game you’re playing supports it, of course. It also comes with a clamp so you can secure it to a desk or racing seat without bolting it down, which will be useful for those who don’t want a permanent setup in their living room. While the fundamental quality of this wheel can’t be knocked, this standard rim can be removed and upgraded later if you fancy something a bit more exotic than a plain, circular, slightly undersized wheel. The shifter paddles have been designed to click in a satisfying way, and they’re centred for racing style steering wheel grip. There’s also a built-in screen at the top of the wheel, which can be used to tinker with your wheel’s calibration parameters, or used for telemetry data in compatible games. This is Fanatec’s lower-spec pedal set, and this bundle doesn’t come with a clutch pedal, so if you’re serious about manual gears, you should consider either the ClubSport pedals or upgrading the existing brake pedal to a Loadcell version, and using the old brake pedal as a clutch instead. The metal housing allows you to move pedals as you see fit, adding comfort and flexibility to an already formidable setup. However, the basic pedals themselves are a joy to use regardless, with superb resistance under your braking foot, and smooth, controllable throttle input. Wheelspin and locked brakes will soon be a thing of the past. Some may actually prefer these pedals to the more expensive ones. Regardless of if you're a hardcore racer or just looking to start off your journey then a steering wheel can still be beneficial. There are many different options for steering wheels, with many budget options if you're not sure. Is Thrustmaster or Logitech better? In all our testing, we've found that that the best steering wheel for Playstation is the Logitech G923. It is amazing quality and still comes at a lower price point that its competitors on the market. However, Thrustmaster offers some more budget friendly options overall. Both brands offer something called Force Feedback - where you can feel the car fighting back against you - leading to a much more immersive experience. However, Logitech's steering wheels force feedback are not fully compatible with all games but tend to be much more intense and realistic. Overall, whichever brand you go for is entirely dependant on what you are looking for in a wheel and how much you are willing to spend. Logitech wheels typically cost around $300 - $400 where as you can find a nice budget Thrustmaster option for around $200.
